Will Chip Mills Accelerate Unsustainable Forestry Practices in Missouri?

Many Missourians are concerned that high capacity chip mills will encourage large scale clearcutting which can have major and long term impacts on Missouri's forests and their soil, water quality and habitat resources. High capacity chip mills are a new form of industrial activity not experienced in Missouri's Ozark forests since the massive clearcutting in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The experience of other states shows that these mills can threaten the long term health and the sustainable use of Missouri's forest resources and the wildlife and human communities which depend on them.
