Meet the 2010 Summer Camp Staff

Wendy Miller, Summer Camp Director

Wendy is the Education Program Manager at Audubon Sharon and has been the Summer Camp Director for the past four years. She handles all camp registrations, supervises the camp staff, and oversees the entire summer camp program.  Wendy fell in love with nature and being outdoors when she attended a summer nature camp when she was a kid. Now, she enjoys helping kids share in those same experiences at Audubon camp!

Katrina Venhuizen , Camp Counselor

Katrina is a graduate in Conservation Biology from University of Wisconsin-Madison, accompanied by an Environmental Studies Certificate. She has been a swim coach for children for six years, and most recently worked with the YMCA of Greater Seattle on Orcas Island as an Environmental Educator. Originally from Austin, Texas, Katrina came to Audubon Sharon in February as our spring/summer Environmental Education Intern.  She is helping to teach school programs, as well as being involved with all aspects of the Center's Maple Sugaring operation. Katrina is excited to be living on the East Coast for the first time, and is looking forward to the summer camp season.

Jasmine & Janine Prokscha, Summer Camp Assistants

Jasmine (on the right in the photo) is returning for her third summer as a Summer Camp Assistant at Audubon Sharon.  She is a graduate of Kent School in Kent, CT and just completed her second year at Drew University.  Jasmine enjoys spending time outdoors and working with children.  We are thrilled to have Jasmine back this summer! Janine (on the left) is Jasmine's younger sister and will be helping out with summer camp on a volunteer basis as needed.

Bimala Carl-Jones, Summer Camp Assistant

We are happy to have Bimala, also known as "B" to our summer camp kids, back with us again this summer! Bimala is a senior at Marvelwood School in Kent, CT and aside from helping out with summer camp, has also been an animal care volunteer at the Sharon Audubon Center.  Bimala enjoys working with children and with birds, and has traveled to Panama with her school for the past few years helping with breeding bird research.  This summer, you may even see Bimala's younger sister Chandrika assisting with some of the summer camp sessions as well.

*Our other Camp Counselor will be determined in April.  He/she will begin work in mid-May and will stay for six months, through mid-November.  Check back later in the spring for more information.
