Audubon Leaders: Betsy Loyless, Senior Vice President, Policy and Donal O'Brien Chair for Advocacy and Policy
Betsy Loyless serves as Senior Vice President for the National Audubon Society and leads the Washington, DC policy office. In this role, Betsy is responsible for Audubon's national environmental lobbying and grassroots outreach efforts, as well as managing the organization's engagement in environmental litigation. She is also the first Audubon employee to hold the endowed position, Donal O'Brien Chair for Advocacy and Policy, named in honor of former Audubon Chairman, Donal C. O'Brien, whose board service spanned 25 years.
An expert in candidate fundraising and voter contact, Betsy has spent the last 20 years working on environmental issues in Washington D.C.
Previously, Betsy spent 12 years at the League of Conservation Voters (LCV), where she rose to Vice President for Policy and Lobbying and led the organization's lobbying campaigns and accountability programs. She also served as Political Director, initiating and executing LCV's Dirty Dozen and Environmental Champions electoral campaigns.
Prior to that, Betsy served for five years as the Deputy Political Director of the Sierra Club in Washington, D.C. It was in this position that she worked with Sierra Club chapters and state offices on federal candidate endorsements and the execution of their campaign plans.
Betsy has worked on political campaigns at the local, state and national level, including three presidential campaigns. She has also served as a state lobbyist on environmental issues in Georgia and Tennessee and as the director of Tennessee Toxics Program.
She earned her B.A. in History from the University of Alabama. She presently serves as a volunteer leader on the boards of the Maryland chapter of the League of Conservation Voters and the Alaska Wilderness League.
