Solar Opportunities - Nebraska

Solar Offerings and Incentives

Homeowners in Nebraska who go solar can avail themselves of the following incentives and opportunities.

State and Local Incentives

Renewable Energy Tax Credit

Nebraska offers a performance-based tax credit for renewable energy production. The incentive is $0.0005 per kWh produced.   The credit may be earned for 10 years  and is capped at $50,000. More information on the tax credit and how to claim it is available here.

Federal Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credit

A federal-level investment tax credit (ITC) is now available to consumers wanting to purchase small wind turbines, solar panels, or geothermal heat pumps.  The ITC, written into law through the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, is available for equipment installed from Oct. 3, 2008 through Dec. 31, 2016. The credit covers 30% of the equipment cost, though some technologies have a credit cap of $2000. More details and a complete list of eligible technologies can be found here.

Local projects

Nebraska Solar Co-op

This solar cooperative is a partnership between the Green Neighborhood Council and the Nebraska Solar Energy Society with the aim to support the residents of Nebraska in going solar. The goal is to encourage others to build solar cooperatives themselves. The Nebraska Solar Co-op provides sponsorship and workshops in order to help educate people about their solar options.
