Just days after the President tackled natural gas, oil, and the environment in his State of the Union address, the Obama administration today laid out his “Blueprint to Make The Most of America’s Energy Resources."

The President started the day at a UPS facility in Las Vegas, a White House press release states, to discuss the importance of America’s workforce in increasing the country’s homemade energy. The President will then travel to Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, Colorado, to further discuss his administration’s plans to promote energy security.

Highlights of the Plan (“to Advance Safe Production of Oil and Gas Resources To Create Jobs, Enhance Energy Security, and Cut Pollution”) Include:

- A new lease sale will be held in the Gulf of Mexico, making about 38 million acres available. The sale, the release said, “could result in the production of 1 billion barrels of oil and 4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.”
- The administration will continue to support job creation from natural gas development, as well as provide incentives (including a competitive grant program and a research competition by the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy ) to develop vehicles and other technologies that can run on natural gas.
- Plans share of electricity from clean energy sources by 2035 with tax incentives and through opening public lands for private investments in clean energy.
- Increasing the use of renewable energy for the U.S. Navy with power purchase agreements and other, existing, authorities (which insures these projects are cost neutral).
