For more than seven weeks now, Audubon’s been on the ground on the Gulf Coast, working alongside and providing support to the government agencies, recruiting volunteers, putting forth policy initiatives and doing as much as possible to stem the tide of the oil spill disaster. Now, with your vote, Audubon could win $200,000 in funding from American Express and TakePart to keep up this important work.
Every three months, American Express and TakePart—a group that describes itself as “an independent online community that connects its members directly to the issues that inspire them to engage, contribute and take action”—will give away $1,000,000 in grants split between five charities, one of each from the following five categories:
1. Environment and wildlife (this is Audubon’s category, of course)
2. Arts and culture
3. Community development
4. Education
5. Health and wellness
Participants can vote once a week, every week, until August 22 when this ballot round ends. (For more information, check out the FAQ page.) It’s easy to participate: Simply register (a process that takes less than a minute) at takepart.com/membersproject/vote, then click your selection. Once you cast your vote, you can see which charities are currently in the lead.
