When we think of sand and music, it's usually a California band that sang "Surfing U.S.A." but there's another performer who's obsessed with the sand and not a member of the Beach Boys.
Composer Diego Stocco amplified the sifting of the sand granules and ran it though his keyboard and laptop to make make music. Actor Rainn Wilson (aka the hilariously stuffy Dwight from NBC's The Office) is a fan of Stocco, posting a video of his work on his website, showing how he creates his 'sand music.'
As Wilson notes, "if something as basic as grains of sand can make such beautiful sounds, it makes me wonder what other potentials are locked up, waiting to be discovered, around our planet."
