Safari Animals Reconstructed at the Bronx Zoo

In honor of Wildlife Wednesday, we’re bringing you some inspiring animals from the Bronx Zoo. They’re life size. They’re alluring. They’re pretty awesome.

And they’re made from LEGOs.

LEGO Master Builders who work for the Danish company whisked into the Zoo, part of the Wildlife Conservation Society, and created a virtual safari from the brick-like plastic blocks. You’ll see lemurs, rhinos, a gorilla, plus many other animals, including the hornbills (above) and the tiger, giraffe, and zebra below.

The idea here is to “connect young minds to nature and inspire visitors to help build a future for wildlife,” says one Zoo spokesperson. It’s not just the walkthrough that’ll do it. One Saturday a month—July 21 (this Saturday) and Aug 11—from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Master Builders will be around to help bring kids’ LEGO visions to life. Want an owl? Craving a crane? The possibilities, it seems, are endless.

For inspiration, walk through the zoo grounds and see some of the sculpted animals, live. Sounds like a great family activity for the weekend. The LEGO animals will be at the zoo until September 3.
