Alex Wardwell

Alex joined Audubon in 2015, but her passion for birds and other wildlife started as a child. Prior to joining Audubon she worked for multiple federal and state agencies working on biological inventory and monitoring and habitat management. She was also a Naturalist for the Indiana DNR and a Park Ranger at Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge, a 50,000 acre grassland-forest complex that has one of the largest breeding populations of Henslow’s sparrows in the country. Alex enjoys working with landowners and partners on habitat improvement projects and she brings strong communication and outreach skills to the team. She manages Audubon’s prairie and wetlands restoration and enhancement program in western Minnesota and works with landowners on conservation easements within the globally unique Tallgrass Aspen Parklands region. She received her Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She lives in northwestern Minnesota with her husband and two sons where she enjoys living close to thousands of acres of public wildlands. Her interests include hiking, camping, traveling, native plants, wildlife viewing, reading a good book, and fishing with her family.
