Coast Live Oak, also known as Encino Verde, is an evergreen, perennial tree that grows 20 to 50 feet tall and wide. It has a short, stout trunk and crooked, spreading branches with glossy, gray-green, holly-like leaves. It produces light brown acorns and yellow green catkins (in male trees) or reddish green spikes (in female trees). This tree grows in full sun or partial shade and in well-drained soil, and attracts birds and butterflies.
