Also called Red Barberry and Algerita, this fragrant, perennial shrub grows 3 to 8 feet tall. It is tough and hardy when established, and has prickly, green leaves, yellow flowers, and purplish-red berries. This plant grows in full sun to partial shade, and in dry, rocky soils.
