This perennial, deciduous shrub, also called Boundary Ephedra and Pitamoreal, grows erect branches and shoots that reach up to 4 feet in height. During March and April, tiny, yellow flowers sprout from clusters of yellow to red-brown seed cones that grow out of the branches’ nodes. This plant grows in arid environments, and in rocky or gravelly soils.
