This small perennial gives off a mild, oniony scent, growing grass-like leaves and a 1 to 2 feet tall flowering stalk out of a bulb. Out of the stem grows an eye-catching umbel of pink or white flowers. This plant prefers full sun, and in moist, rich soil, and attracts a variety of wildlife, including mammals, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
Also known as Parry's Agave and Century Plant, this succulent grows to about three feet in height in full sun and dry, rocky soils. Older plants produce a stalk up to twenty feet tall with bright yellow blooms and die after blooming. The nectar-rich flowers are popular with hummingbirds and orioles.
