Sugar Maple is a deciduous tree that grows to a height of 60 to 75 feet and a spread of 40 to 50 feet at maturity. Its crown is dense and rounded, with leaves that turn beautiful shades of yellow, burnt orange, and red in the fall. This tree provides excellent shade and yields pairs of winged seeds about 2 inches long. It grows best in rich, moist, well-drained soils, and in full sun to partial shade, though is susceptible to leaf scorch during periods of drought.
