In Washington, North Cascades National Park’s steep mountains drain glaciers through thousands of miles of rivers and streams and over 300 lakes and ponds. The steep elevation combined with lush waterways foster diverse habitats ranging from mountain meadows to low-elevation forests to wetlands. Over half of the bird species that breed within the park are migratory, including Warbling Vireos, Swainson's Thrushes, Wilson's Warblers, and Western Tanagers. The Skagit River attracts one of the largest wintering concentrations of Bald Eagles in the continental United States.
